Misano Brings Best WorldSSP Result For Luke Power
Aussie Luke Power raced to his best FIM Supersport World Championship finish of the season at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy yesterday, crossing the line on his Motozoo ME AIR Racing Kawasaki in twenty third position despite losing several seconds after taking avoiding action to an on-track incident that happened in front of him on the opening lap.
The two solid free practice sessions on Friday were not without issue, Luke suffering an electronics problem which was out of the control of the team. Similar issues prevented Luke from qualifying higher than twenty seventh and sadly put paid to any chance of a race one finish on Saturday. He retired on the warm up lap.
Great work by the team, who worked tirelessly to rectify the situation, enabled the eighteen-year-old to complete Sunday morning’s warm up and race two in the afternoon. After a lightning start that saw him gain several places, Luke was lucky not to go down as part of a multi-rider incident at turn four on lap one. A return of the ongoing intermittent issue that plagued him throughout the weekend prevented him from showing his true potential but nevertheless he dug deep to achieve his best result since joining the series.
Understandably disappointed, both Luke and the team are optimistic of a strong showing at the UK round of the series at Donington Park at the end of June.
Luke Power:
“The team’s home race in Misano is finished. It was a difficult weekend with some problems out of our control, but the team worked hard as they always to do to try to resolve things. We managed to finish race two with our best finish of the year which is a positive. I have to remember that this was only my third ever round in a world championship and only my third race finish of the season. I learned a lot and look forward to putting what I learned in place at Donington at the end of the month. I think our potential for the future races is much better than what we have been able to show and for this I am really excited. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in Misano this weekend. The crowd was awesome, you couldn’t move in the paddock. The vibe at the stage and in the pit lane was crazy. I want to thank the whole team, all my sponsors, supporters and my grandad who made the trip from Australia to watch me race in World Supersport for the first time.”
