Luke comes back from Cremona crash to finish inside top twenty
It was a challenging ninth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Cremona in Italy for Luke Power who after a solid start to the weekend in Friday’s Free Practice session had an early fall in Superpole. Able to remount and make it back to the pits the team did a great job to fix the bike enabling Luke to get back out, but unfortunately an ECU issue, most likely caused by the initial crash ended his qualifying and prevented him from improving on the P18 that he had held prior to the spill.
Having to start towards the back of the grid the task ahead was always going to be tough but Luke showed incredible grit and determination to pass eight riders on lap one of the opening race, moving up to twenty first before losing the front and crashing on lap two. His never give up attitude once again kicked in as he was able to remount eventually finishing twentieth after a spirited ride in the remaining eighteen laps.
Race Two on Sunday was equally as tough with Luke compromised by his grid position yet again. But, as he had done a day earlier the #68 Motozoo ME AIR Racing rider powered his MV Agusta through the field on lap one crossing the line twenty third overall at the flag.
He was fourth and fifth in the WorldSSP Challenge classification in both races, respectively.
With only a few days before the next round at Motorland Aragon Luke is already looking ahead to the second Spanish event of the year.
Luke Power:
“It was a challenging weekend in Cremona. It started quite well in Free Practice but after putting in a decent banker lap in Superpole which put me P18 I crashed. I got back to the pits and the team did a good job to get me back out but then we had a technical which was disappointing as the bike stopped at Turn 4 with an ECU issue but because of the nature of the track there was no way to get back to the pits which was unfortunate. I made a good start in race one and felt quite good when I tucked the front and crashed. I got back on and finished twentieth. We made some changes on Sunday morning and in race two I made another good start but then got involved in a battle with some riders which made us lose time to the group ahead. P23 overall is something to take from the weekend and there are positives which is the main thing. It’s time now to get to Spain and relax for a couple of days before heading to Aragon where I will be giving it everything to get back in the points. I want to thank the team for their hard work and to everyone who is supporting me. See you in a few days!”
