Luke focused on Assen WorldSSP return after missing Portimao races
Luke Power’s Portuguese weekend was over before he got the chance to race after he was ruled out of the second round of the FIM Supersport World Championship on medical grounds.
Despite attempting to ride in both FP1 and Superpole on Friday, the young Aussie was declared unfit following the injury sustained in the opening round of the series in Phillip Island.
Following the event in Phillip Island where Luke achieved his two best dry weather results (P12 and P11), he elected to have surgery to improve the shoulder mobility in the shoulder he damaged. Whilst successful, the reality is that following the operation the injury needs more time to fully heal. He now looks ahead to round three of the championship at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands, a track in which he made his WorldSSP debut at and one that saw him finish inside the top ten a year ago.
Luke Power:
“Obviously I am disappointed to not be taking part in either race in Portimão, but I respect the decision of the medical director. I did everything possible after the surgery to get myself in the best physical shape, but the medical team declared me unfit to race. I am going to work hard over the next two weeks before Assen and I think we can have a really good result there. I want to thank the team for their work on Friday and for the belief and support. We will come back stronger. Thanks to all my sponsors, my family, my manager, and the fans for their continued support. I am sorry that I couldn’t race this weekend, but I will come back even stronger and fight for the results I know we deserve like I did in Phillip Island!”
