Luke battles hard to take P2 and P3 at Aragon

The 2024 FIM Supersport Championship returned to Spain for the tenth round of the series with Australian teenager Luke Power once again in contention for world championship points throughout both races. He raced to second and third overall in the WorldSSP Challenge in the two encounters.

Friday’s Free Practice saw Luke steadily improving before his first two runs in Superpole saw the #68 Motozoo ME AIR Racing rider well inside the top twenty. Traffic on his final run prevented any further improvement.

Starting race one from P26, Luke had an amazing first lap, gaining six positions ensuring he was in the fight for world championship points and involving himself in one of the most hotly contested on track battles of his career. At times more than eight riders swapped places with Luke exchanging paint with former Grand Prix race winners at every turn.

Despite a not as impressive start to race two Luke was soon gaining places and for the second consecutive day involved in a multiple rider fight from start to finish aboard his MV Agusta.

A double top three finish in the WorldSSP Challenge are the reward for his efforts, a great comeback and confidence builder after Cremona.

The series heads to its final two rounds – another back-to-back – in Estoril and Jerez in a fortnight.

Luke Power

“It was a positive weekend overall where I learned a lot and improved my feeling with the bike which was important for me. Free Practice started well, and I made a big step in qualifying. My first two ‘push’ runs were fast enough to put me inside the top twenty and it’s a shame that on the last run I couldn’t improve due to traffic around me, but that’s how it goes sometimes. I was confident going into race one. I made a good start and made up quite a lot of places. I struggled a little to pass some of the riders in the group which affected the end position but in saying that I enjoyed the race long battle. For race two we made another step with the bike and improved my feeling. I still struggled to pass some of the riders in the group, but it was another fun fight. Working on this in the next races is my focus for the next rounds as I had good top fifteen pace in the final laps. I am content with the weekend overall and thank the team for all their hard work and thank everyone who supports me.”
